Jaylen Brown sends an intimidating message to the rest of the NBA

The expectation of titles in the city puts a lot of pressure on the Boston Celtics players. But this past offseason, guard Jaylen Brown signed the largest contract in NBA history, which put him under even more pressure.

While many players sign big contracts and then lose interest, Brown has achieved the exact opposite. The two-time All-Star has been playing exceptionally well lately as the Celtics keep winning the league. He scored 32 points in just 28 minutes to help the Houston Rockets defeat the team 145-113 on Saturday night.

Following the big win, Brown told the media that he still feels like he has room to grow, per Celtics in-house writer Taylor Snow.

“I’m having fun learning and trying to reach my full potential,” he said. “I feel like I’ve gotten better each and every year, and I don’t think that’s going to stop any time soon.”

Brown’s current game average is 23.4 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.5 assists. Additionally, he is shooting a career-best 49.6% from the field, which is excellent.

The 27-year-old has only missed two games all season, demonstrating his excellent ability to stay on the floor. His health and a stellar starting lineup have helped the C’s finish 30-9 and atop the Eastern Conference.

Naturally, Brown and company’s true test will come after the regular season. Boston has long had a “championship or bust” mentality, but this is a valid assessment for the 2023–24 season. The Celtics are a clear title candidate thanks to their outstanding talent, strong bench, and perfect 19-0 home record.

Boston stands in severe need of banner number eighteen, particularly in light of the C’s recent near-miss championships. There’s a good chance that Brown and his teammates can break the 16-year title drought for the Celtics if they can keep getting better.
