Utilizing the excitement around the Men’s Paris Fashion Week, Jordan Brand said on Friday that Jayson Tatum and Rui Hachimura have joined their ranks as basketball ambassadors.
With 90,000 members of basketball clubs in the Paris region and the 2024 Summer Olympics scheduled to take place here, the brand is hoping to increase its visibility in the city.
In addition to announcing a collaboration with the French Basketball Federation in 2017, the Jordan Brand launched a store in 2016 called Jordan Bastille. Its first collection with the soccer team Paris Saint-Germain took place last year.
The Paris event was held at a hotel particulier in the city’s 5th arrondissement called the House of Jumpman, with rows of white balls on poles greeting guests and a makeshift fake basketball court in the courtyard.
βIβve been wearing Jordans since before I could walkβ¦just getting [Michael Jordanβs] approval to come to the brand was really big for me because heβs the greatest of all time,β Tatum told WWD.
The native of St. Louis, who the Boston Celtics selected third overall in the 2017 NBA Draft, now has more than 50 athlete ambassadors associated with the Nike Inc.-owned brand across a variety of sports; other attendees of the event included Maya Moore, Blake Griffin, and Kemba Walker.
Tatum, who was well-groomed and had numerous tattoos, alluded to his own design goals while sporting a pair of bright yellow “Flyknit 4s” from the company. When you visit Jordan, you’ll see a lot of inventiveness. He declared, “I really want to use that and share my own stories.”
During the event, David Creech, vice president of design at Jordan Brand, provided an overview of the brand’s 2018 Flight Utility theme upgrades. He specifically highlighted the brand’s 23 Engineered apparel collection and its unisex pieces, which include a women’s version of the classic Flight Suit. Highlights included functional jackets made of reflective high-tech nylon and eye-catching colored washes, which combined innovation and legacy.
Along with launching the Jordan Trunner NXT HTM, which was created by Hiroshi Fujiwara, Tinker Hatfield, and Mark Parker, the brand also unveiled its second collection of lifestyle pieces for Paris Saint-Germain, adding distinctive infrared accents. The Quai 54, which commemorates the 15th anniversary of the renowned streetball tournament of the same name, was also released.
