In the last 30 seconds, Jayson Tatum scored 30 points and had two blocks to help the Boston Celtics defeat the Indiana Pacers 129-124 on Tuesday night.
Boston defeated Indiana 3-2 in their season series because to contributions from Jaylen Brown (25 points) and Derrick White (24 points). In December, during the In-Season Tournament quarterfinals, the Pacers defeated the Celtics.
Leading the Pacers with 26 points and 12 rebounds was Aaron Nesmith. Myles Turner contributed 17 points, and Pascal Siakam concluded with 23 points. Tyrese Haliburton, an All-Star, finished with 10 rebounds and 13 points on 5-of-16 shooting.
Late in the first half, the Celtics led by 20 points, but Indiana battled back and trailed 127-124 when White stopped Nesmith’s attempt to tie the game with a 3-pointer. Turner next attempted a shot at the rim, but Tatum stopped him. This resulted in a shot-clock violation.
Jrue Holiday added two free throws to increase Boston’s lead. With 11.2 seconds remaining, Tatum was called for a foul after Nesmith shoved the ball up the floor, appearing to block the shot cleanly. After a review, Boston appealed the call, and the foul was reversed.
The Celtics started the game with energy after faltering in the opening minutes of the teams’ previous two games.
After missing two games due to a sprained left ankle, Kristaps Porzingis is back in the starting lineup. His presence inside helped Boston’s shooters spread out the Pacers and kept Indiana’s defense honest. The Celtics, who made 17 3-pointers that evening, were able to get open looks as a result. In the end, Porzingis had 12 rebounds and 17 points.
In the third quarter, the Pacers scored 25 points in a row to take the lead, 94-93. Boston rallied during the last 4:11 of the quarter, capping it off with a slam by Neemias Queta off a Tatum assist, giving the Celtics a 106-103 lead going into the fourth.
With just over five minutes remaining in the game, the Celtics built a 122-112 lead with a 16-9 run to start the final quarter.
