Recently, Kyrie Irving paid a visit to a group of high school students in the area. Irving is best known for having helped the Cleveland Cavaliers overcome a 3-1 series deficit to defeat the Golden State Warriors in the 2016 NBA Finals.

The talented point guard, who is currently a member of the Dallas Mavericks, reportedly gave the playoff-bound Shaw High School boys basketball team words of encouragement during their meeting on Monday night.

“This experience truly meant the world to our team,” East Cleveland City Schools said on Instagram.

The basketball coaches at East Cleveland City Schools contacted Irving directly to inquire about his interest in speaking to their group, and he responded, East Cleveland City Schools told FOX 8.

The team did manage to defeat Ravenna High School 66-41 in Tuesday’s postseason opening round.

“Guess the inspirational talk worked,” the East Cleveland City Schools spokesperson told FOX 8.

Irving was in town because his current team, the Cavaliers, needed to win Tuesday night. Specifically, Max Strus’ game-winning 59-foot shot in the closing seconds of the game meant that the Cavs would ultimately prevail.

After the exciting game, Irving took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to thank Cleveland, even if his team didn’t win.

“It will always be Love from me and my Tribe, Cleveland aka Believeland,” he wrote. “No one will ever be able to take away our banner we won together. All for one, one for all. What a time.”
