Denver Nuggets guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and two-way player Braxton Key were both out from Saturday’s game against Los Angeles due to personal issues, according to coach Michael Malone.
Both players are anticipated to be back with the Nuggets for their next game, against the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday at Ball Arena.
Christian Braun began at shooting guard in Caldwell-Pope’s place against Los Angeles. Malone explained Caldwell-Pope’s absence as a “family matter” and declined to further. He stated that he had spoken with both players, “but right now it’s just personal for both of those guys, and it’s not my business to put out in public.”
Jamal Murray, Nuggets point guard, sprained his right ankle for the second time this season Thursday when the Nuggets (41-19) played Miami. He went through his pregame routine and felt great Saturday. He was moved into Denver’s starting lineup after being questioned before warming up.
The Nuggets were 2-3 this season sans Caldwell-Pope before their game against the Lakers.
