A.J. Slaughter, a Polish national team guard, earned a lot of attention following a viral photo of him with his kid, Nikola Jokic, and Luka Doncic.
At first glance, it appeared to be an ordinary photo of Slaughter sharing a moment with the two biggest talents of EuroBasket 2022. After Poland eliminated Slovenia, many joked that Slaughter was the tournament’s last guy standing.
However, for Slaughter, this image holds a much deeper meaning.
“Man, I was telling someone to thank these guys for being humble enough to take a picture with me and my son,” Slaughter told BasketballNews. “I want to put my pride aside; I’ve never played against those guys. I want to put my pride aside and ask those folks for the image.”
“They’re grateful for giving me and my son a photograph, a lifetime memory. Something that, when he grows up, he will realize who took the image. He’ll thank me. “Just another lifetime memory made in EuroBasket 2022,” Slaughter concluded.
In a quarterfinal win over Slovenia, Slaughter had 16 points (4/6 2PT, 2/8 3PT, 2/3 FT), 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals, 1 turnover, and 20 EFF.
Poland will meet France in the semifinals on Friday, 17:15 CET.
