Klay Thompson would ‘accept a relative discount’ in order to stay with the Warriors

Klay Thompson has stated that he wants to continue with the Warriors, regardless of his role. Golden State’s ownership and management have made it obvious that they want to bring back Thompson, who is in the final year of his contract and may become a free agency this summer.

Both sides have been bargaining all season, but no agreement has been reached. Michael Scotto of Hoopshype contacted eight NBA executives from different teams to determine Thompson’s value and the terms of the transaction. The replies were interesting, but no one expected him to be anyplace other than San Francisco next season.Klay Thompson Golden State Warriors

Three executives expected Thompson to earn $18-20 million per year, while the other five projected he would earn $20-25 million. Four executives predicted Golden State would ideally try to sign Thompson and his teammate “Splash Brother,” Curry, to a two-year deal. Green, meanwhile, has a player option for the 2026-27 season.NBA: Milwaukee Bucks at Golden State Warriors

Last summer, Draymond Green inked a four-year, $100 million contract to stay with the Warriors. The common thinking around the league has been that Golden State wanted to do something in that ballpark for Thompson, three years and $70-$75 million, though it is unclear what was really offered.

Thompson has struggled this season as he confronts his basketball mortality, but he has eventually embraced and thrived as a sixth man. One executive told Hoopshype that the similar feeling might influence upcoming discussions.Có thể là hình ảnh về 2 người và văn bản

“I see him at around $18-20 million per year,” an NBA executive told HoopsHype. “I don’t think he’ll accept it because he sees himself far higher. If all offers are equal, I believe he will return to Golden State. I believe his friendship with Steph and being able to play in one location are significant to him.”

While Orlando and other clubs are rumoured to be interested, they are unlikely to offer Thompson more money or years at this juncture in his career, making a return to the Warriors the best option for everyone: Thompson, the Warriors, and even Rocco. Eventually, it will be completed.
