Thompson injured his left ACL in Game 6 of the 2019 NBA Finals, forcing him to miss the whole 2019-20 season. Thompson then suffered a torn right Achilles tendon while rehabbing from his knee injury, forcing him to miss the whole 2020-21 season.
He returned to play in January 2022, following an almost 31-month absence. He went on to assist the Warriors capture the 2022 championship.
