Usually, it is almost sacrilegious to consider dealing with LeBron James. LeBron is the Lakers’ main source of success and the only thing keeping them relevant at the moment.
However, the Lakers’ squad morale has plummeted after a 0–4 start, and some supporters have even expressed a wish to start again from scratch.
Due to the current circumstances, trade talks have become quite interesting. Former NBA coach George Karl has seized the chance to suggest a collaboration between LeBron James and league MVP Nikola Jokic.
In the past, the Denver Nuggets have attempted to sign LeBron James.
Although it is highly unlikely that the Lakers will trade James, the Nuggets have attempted to sign him in the past. They intended to approach him back in 2018 before he signed a contract to become a member of the Lakers.
With the Cavaliers, James made four straight Finals visits and won one championship. He then brought his skills to Southern California in an attempt to lead the Lakers back to the top. Several teams, like the Houston Rockets and Philadelphia 76ers, had strong arguments at the moment to entice the player to leave Cleveland.
But in the end, the Lakers prevailed, and in the summer of 2018, they signed one of the greatest players in NBA history. However, these three weren’t the only people who wanted to acquire Bron. The Denver Nuggets actually intended to sign the three-time NBA champion and pair him with Will Barton and Nikola Jokic.
“After adding Jokic and Barton, the Denver Nuggets will focus on LeBron James, one more free agent. In 2018, Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated said, “The Nuggets have been in contact with James’s agent and will aggressively pursue a meeting.”
Jokic and LeBron together would be crazy. Jokic is the best center in the game because of his flexibility as a creator and scorer, which makes him hard to stop. LeBron’s style of play, which primarily consists of drives to the rim and setting teammates up for open looks, would undoubtedly help him.
It’s not a real-life situation, unfortunately for Nuggets supporters, but it’s nonetheless entertaining to speculate about what would have happened if James had chosen a different team in 2018.
