In 2019, Tom Brady transferred the torch to Patrick Mahomes.
The famous quarterback paid Mahomes a visit in the locker room after his New England Patriots defeated the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2019 AFC Championship Game.
Fans were eager to be fly on the wall back then.
Fortunately, Chiefs coach Andy Reid provided some insight into what Brady said to Mahomes during various appearances with NFL Network and NBC Sports following the Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory against the San Francisco 49ers.
According to Reid, Brady told Mahomes that he was “turning the keys over” to him back in 2019.
Reid then addressed the incident in a separate interview with NBC Sports insider Peter King.
“He makes the difficult look easy at the highest possible level in the whole world,” he remarked. “There are only 32 people in the world, and he’s the most remarkable of them all. I enjoyed watching Tom Brady hand over the keys to him. Tom stated, “Hey, this is your league now, man.”
Brady reclaimed the keys once more, and he went on to upset Mahomes and the Chiefs in Super Bowl LV as a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
However, it is difficult to argue that Mahomes and the Chiefs currently own the NFL, having won three titles in five seasons.
Kudos to Reid for revealing this moment between the two superhuman athletes.
