Louis Rees-Zammit’s first words as a Chiefs player as he signs his contract accompanied by family

Louis Rees-Zammit has expressed his joy at signing a contract with the Kansas City Chiefs, who have won two Super Bowls in succession.

The former Wales winger, who left rugby union on the eve of the Six Nations, was part of the 2024 international player route and has now signed with NFL powerhouses the Kansas City Chiefs. His next task will be to secure a regular-season roster place for the Chiefs.

The Kansas City Chiefs shared photos on X showing a visibly joyful Rees-Zammit signing his contract surrounded by his parents, Joe and Maxine, as well as his brother Taylor. In a video broadcast on X, Rees-Zammit stated: “Hello Chiefs Kingdom, Louis Rees-Zammit here.”

“Just joined up and can’t wait to go. “See you all at Arrowhead.”

The former Gloucester winger is said to have signed a three-year contract and will likely play running back.

Rees-Zammit was one of 16 players who participated in this year’s IPP, a 10-week intensive school designed to teach the skills necessary to compete in the NFL. Rees-Zammit will compete alongside the off-season squad to secure a spot on the final 53-man roster for the 2024 season, which begins in September.

All 32 NFL teams will be allocated one more spot on their practice squads, giving players in the IPP a chance to advance. If a team has an IPP player on their practice squad, they may promote the player to the final active 53-man squad without taking up a spot up to three times per season.
