Although Anthony Davis is most recognized as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers, an NBA team, he is also married to Marlen Polanco Davis.

After being together since at least 2017, when they welcomed their first child, the couple tied the knot in September 2021 in a ceremony attended by celebrities. Along with their daughter Nala, who was born in November 2017, the couple has also welcomed two sons.

The basketball star may not be interested in talking about much of his personal life, but he has made his family’s importance clear.

“The greatest luxury in life is family. I think no matter what you go through, your family is always going to be there,” he told Haute Living in 2019. “You can get into it with them — argue with, complain, go through a low point in your life, have something great or something bad going on — they’re always going to be there.”

“That’s why I’m big on family. No matter what I do or what I have, I know my family’s not going to change; they’re always going to be there for me. Even when we fuss and fight, I know I can always count on them,” he shared.

Anthony and Marlen share three children together

Anthony and Marlen’s daughter Nala was born on November 1, 2017. She and her dad have made several appearances together, including one in May of 2021 when she patiently sat on his lap for a post-game interview.

In July of 2021, Nala went to the Regal LA Live & 4DX cinema with her father to see the premiere of Space Jam: A New Legacy. Along with her dad, who played the role of The Brow in the cartoon feature, she posed on the purple carpet while holding a toy Bugs Bunny.

“I hadn’t really thought about [doing anything Hollywood-related]; basketball is my focus. Obviously [though], me and LeBron are very close, and he asked if I wanted to be in a movie with him,” he told Haute Living in 2019. “I felt like it was a cool opportunity for me, being that Space Jam is one of my favorite movies, so I jumped on board.”

The couple also shares two sons together, though they haven’t revealed their names or when they were born. In June 2021, he confirmed that they had “a son on the way,” who seemingly arrived ahead of their wedding that September. He made one public appearance when he was seen being held by his dad and wearing his jersey at the Crypto.com arena during a game in March 2023.

Anthony and Marlen welcomed a third baby in the summer of 2022, which the NBA star confirmed during a Spectrum News interview in September 2022. When asked what his favorite part of the summer was, Anthony answered with a smile. “Adding another to the family,” he said, confirming it was a “little boy.”

“A girl and two boys now, so I got a team,” he added. “I’m outnumbered now, we’re outnumbered now. Amazing, blessed kids are a blessing, so I’m happy to have three of them.”

In Marlen’s private Instagram bio, she has the initials of her children listed: “NAD ️ JAD ️ KAD.”

While Anthony gave interviews during the NBA’s All-Star weekend in 2024, his younger son sat on his lap, pulling at his dad’s jersey. As a seasoned father, Anthony didn’t seem to miss a beat in the video shared on TikTok.

They made their red carpet debut in 2020

The couple, who usually keep to themselves, made an unusual public appearance at the Vanity Fair Oscars Afterparty on February 9, 2020. It was also their first time walking the red carpet together. A thigh-high slit cream long-sleeve dress, striking earrings, a white bag embellished with feathers, and strappy shoes were Marlen’s accessories. Anthony sported a sharp black suit.

They got married in 2021

Anthony and Marlen exchanged “I do” vows at the Beverly Hills Hotel in California on September 18, 2021. The bride wore a strapless gown by the Australian label Nektaria for the wedding; it had a long train and elaborate embroidery. With a white flower from Mark’s Garden, she accessorized her outfit with a jeweled hairpiece and a flowing veil.

The happy couple changed into their second looks of the evening for the reception, which Mindy Weiss, a celebrity event coordinator, had organized, after exchanging vows. Marlen sported a beaded halter-style dress, a ponytail, and personalized Nike sneakers that read “Mrs.” and “Davis.”

Notable guests at the wedding included Russell Westbrook, Adele, Rich Paul, LeBron James, and many more. Davis grabbed the microphone and sang Dru Hill’s “Never Make a Promise” while he and his new wife danced.

She is very private

Marlen prefers to remain out of the limelight and away from the public eye, even though she is married to a famous celebrity. In a similar vein, Anthony has just stopped using social media. After a tough loss against the Trail Blazers in February 2023, the power forward decided to deactivate his Instagram account.

She is her husband’s biggest supporter

Marlen helps her husband out a lot behind the scenes, even if she avoids the spotlight.

When the Los Angeles Lakers won the 2020 NBA Finals, Marlen and Nala were among those who congratulated Anthony on his first championship ring. The video also featured Anthony’s parents, Erainer and Anthony Davis Sr.

It is with great joy and pride that Nala and I give you this first ring tonight. She told her daughter, who was sitting on her lap, “We are so proud of you” as they stood in front of a colorful Christmas tree. “We love you.”
