Superstar Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks will be able to sign a five-year, $346 million supermax agreement in the 2025 offseason. According to Bobby Marks of ESPN, this would be the highest-paying NBA contract ever.
Doncic is qualified for MVP and All-NBA awards this season because he has played in 65 games. In addition, if he is selected All-NBA this offseason, he will satisfy the super-max requirements.
The Slovenian, who is already in his sixth season, is unable to sign the extension until 2025, though, because of the NBA’s seven-year service requirement.
Doncic is headed toward being the first player in NBA history to earn a salary of at least $70 million. At the moment, he earns more than $40 million annually.
The 25-year-old is averaging a career-high and league-leading 34.0 points, 9.1 rebounds, 9.8 assists, and 1.5 steals—the best basketball game of his life. Doncic’s shooting percentages are 38.0 percent from beyond the arc, 78.2 percent from the free-throw line, and 48.9 percent from the field.
With a record of 45-29, the Mavs (45-29) now own the No. 5 spot in the Western Conference rankings after winning 11 of their previous 12 games.
