Lakers beat sagging Raptors 128-111 for their seventh win in the previous eight games as they aim to climb the standings

LeBron James scored 23 points, Anthony Davis added 21 points and 12 rebounds, and the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Toronto Raptors 128-111 on Tuesday night, their seventh victory in eight games.

D’Angelo Russell went 7 for 14 from three-point range and scored 25 points, while Rui Hachimura had 14 and Max Christie had 12, as the Lakers handed slumping Toronto their 14th consecutive loss.

James, the NBA’s career scoring leader, went 10 for 12 with nine assists.

James arrived having equaled his career best of nine 3-pointers in Sunday’s triumph over Brooklyn. The 20-time All-Star attempted only one long-range shot against the Raptors, connecting with 5.22 seconds remaining in the third quarter.

Davis sat out the whole fourth quarter, while James left with 9:22 remaining in the game after Los Angeles stretched its advantage to 27, 109-82. On Wednesday night, the Los Angeles Lakers go to Washington to face the Wizards.

RJ Barrett scored 28 points and Immanuel Quickley added 20 for the Raptors. In 1997-98, Toronto suffered a franchise-worst 17 consecutive losses.

Toronto’s Gary Trent Jr. rested, while Barrett and Quickley returned after missing time for personal reasons and reconditioning. The pair combined for 17 points in the first quarter, but the Lakers closed with an 18-4 run to lead 34-25 after one.

At intermission, Los Angeles led 64-58. James and Davis each scored nine points in the third, extending the Lakers’ lead to 100-79 after three.

The Raptors were without five injured players, including starters Scottie Barnes and Jakob Poeltl. Jontay Porter, a Toronto two-way player, missed his fifth straight game while being investigated for gambling charges.

Raptors guard Bruce Brown departed in the fourth with a strained right knee.

Lakers forward Cam Reddish was unavailable due to personal reasons, and guard Gabe Vincent sat out the first night of the back-to-back games as he recovers from left knee surgery.
