With the excellence of the LeBron James – Anthony Davis duo, the Los Angeles Lakers concluded their lengthy road trip with their eighth win in their last nine games.
After playing six consecutive away games in nine days, the Los Angeles Lakers understood that their legs were growing tired. Their minds were also fatigued, despite their recent good form with six wins in their last seven games.
LeBron James and his teammates reached the end of their road trip, playing their second game in two consecutive days against the Washington Wizards. Despite fatigue and a slight decline, the Los Angeles Lakers, who had been leading the Wizards by 17 points, allowed their opponents to narrow the score to 107-105.
The Washington team had just defeated the Milwaukee Bucks by 4 points, denying Giannis Antetokounmpo’s triple-double of 30 points the previous day (April 3). Therefore, concerns about a potential loss for the Lakers against the Wizards arose.
However, in the end, LeBron James and the LA team rallied with a 12-0 run, securing a final victory of 125-120 to conclude their away game streak with a total record of 5 wins and 1 loss.
Anthony Davis dominated the Wizards with 35 points, 18 rebounds, and a perfect 15-for-15 free throw shooting performance. The entire Lakers’ starting lineup scored 16 points or more, led by Anthony Davis with his impressive performance. LeBron James followed closely behind with 25 points, 9 assists, 7 rebounds, and 3 steals. Rui Hachimura, D’Angelo Russell, and Austin Reaves contributed 19, 18, and 16 points respectively. The Lakers’ bench once again fell behind the starting lineup, scoring a total of only 12 points out of the team’s 125 points. Nevertheless, the final result achieved by the team as a whole was more important, and that was a victory.
On the opposing side, Jordan Poole led the Wizards with an impressive performance, scoring 29 points (10-for-19 FG, 5-for-9 3PT) along with 5 assists in his return to the starting lineup. Former Lakers player Kyle Kuzma contributed 17 points, 12 rebounds, and 3 assists in 39 minutes of play.
The Washington team had just achieved an impressive victory against the Milwaukee Bucks the previous day (April 3) and entered the game against the Lakers with high spirits. They hit five three-pointers in the first half to take a 19-8 lead.
However, for the remainder of the game, the Wizards couldn’t contain the “monster” Anthony Davis and secure a victory as they did against Giannis Antetokounmpo. “These are games that we have to win even if we know our opponents may not be strong or in good form,” said D’Angelo Russell regarding the Lakers’ last three away games against weaker teams such as the Brooklyn Nets, Toronto Raptors, and Washington Wizards.
“I think in terms of offense, we have found stability through ball movement and sharing. There’s still room for improvement in terms of turnovers, but overall, the team is finding its rhythm,” LeBron James added, sharing his thoughts on the Lakers’ six consecutive away games.
“Our defense is a bit less consistent. There are times when we play well, and there are times when we need to improve to perform better. But overall, when we need to tighten our defense to secure a victory, we have been able to do so, at least in the recent away game series.” Thus, the Los Angeles Lakers concluded their 10-day stretch of away games. Overall, it was a successful road trip for Coach Darvin Ham and his players, with 5 wins in 6 games, continuing their hopes of climbing to the 7th or 8th position in the standings.
In addition, guard Gabe Vincent made his return after a 5-month injury recovery, improving the team’s defensive capabilities among the guards just before entering the Play-in stage and the playoffs.
Another player who is showing positive signs but has not yet returned is Jarred Vanderbilt. This forward has started warming up and completing some exercises with the team, expected to make his return in 1-2 weeks. “The Western Conference is very competitive this year. We have been playing well recently, and so have our opponents,” said Coach Darvin Ham.
“The team will maintain focus as we approach the final games of the Regular Season. Then the big game will officially begin, and we will need all available personnel.”
In the immediate future, the Los Angeles Lakers will have three consecutive home games, facing the Cleveland Cavaliers (April 7), the Minnesota Timberwolves (April 8), and the Golden State Warriors (April 10).
