According to Andy Reid, the Eagles may have difficulty replacing Jason Kelce as a leader in the locker room

The head coach mentioned Kelce during the NFL owner’s meeting in Florida.

Following Jason Kelce’s retirement from the NFL, Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid paused to reflect on Kelce’s remarkable impact on the Philadelphia Eagles locker room.

Kelce, a famous center who spent his entire 13-year career with the Eagles, announced his retirement earlier this month, leaving a vacuum that Reid believes would be impossible to replace.

Reid shared his thoughts with reporters during the NFL owners meeting, praising Kelce’s leadership on and off the field.

‘It’s difficult for several reasons. I’m not sure who was coming up behind him, but he had a loud voice.”

“He was not only an excellent player, but he was also a strong leader. He did it both on and off the field, which was vital. All those guys keeping everyone in order is a huge deal. “I am sure they have other guys who can work in there.”Reid commented.

He stressed Kelce’s influential influence and the difficulty of finding someone to fill his shoes.

Reid, who drafted Kelce in 2011 while with the Eagles, noticed Kelce’s contributions as soon as he joined the team. “He kinda took over things right away,” Reid recounted, underlining Kelce’s innate leadership abilities.

Reflecting on his relationship with the Kelce family, Reid praised both Jason and his younger brother Travis, whom he drafted in 2013 while coaching the Chiefs.

“That family, I’ve become close with it,” Reid said affectionately. “Tremendous players, and Jason is a great leader – emotional player, brings that to the table, and has done so for a long time.”

Reid’s appreciation for Kelce extended beyond the football field, as he recognized the physical toll the game takes on players and expressed support for Kelce’s decision to retire.

“My hat goes off to him,” Reid added, praising Kelce’s accomplishments and efforts throughout his career.

Notably, Jason had an important role in getting Reid to take a chance on his brother Travis, despite his initial doubts.

Reid recalls reaching out to Jason prior to the selection to get his approval before picking Travis.

Jason’s support influenced Reid’s choice, highlighting the closeness between coach and player.

The Chiefs are anticipated to announce Reid’s contract extension soon.

In other news, Reid and the Chiefs are anticipated to start negotiating a new contract, with Reid set to become one of the highest-paid football coaches in history.

Despite constant talk about his retirement, Reid has shown no signs of slowing down, renewing his dedication to leading the Chiefs to a three-peat.

Brett Veach, the team’s general manager, is also up for a new contract.

Veach and Reid signed extensions following the Chiefs’ victory in Super Bowl LIV.

Since then, Kansas City has won two more championships in a row, becoming the first club to do it since the New England Patriots in 2003-04.

Reid is thought to be the third highest-paid coach in the AFC West, behind Sean Payton and Jim Harbaugh.
