Klay Thompson’s family has extensive experience in professional sports.

The basketball star, Stephen Curry’s right-hand man for the Golden State Warriors, grew raised in an athletic family. His father, Mychal Thompson, is an NBA champion who played for the Los Angeles Lakers in the 1980s and 1990s. His mother, Julie Thompson, was a college volleyball and track & field athlete.

It’s no surprise that the couple’s three children, Klay, Trayce, and Mychel, have achieved success in professional sports. Klay and Mychel play basketball, while Trayce plays baseball.

“Within our family, it was like any other family,” Trayce once told Bleacher Report. “I never saw my father as simply an athlete. “My brothers were my brothers.”

However, unlike most other families, the three sons competed differently. Trayce won a driveway basketball game against Mychel when they were younger. “He said he was going to run away,” Trayce remembered. “It was funny.”

The Thompsons are close and have even established a charitable foundation together.

Mychel is the oldest of the Thompson brothers and the first to pursue a professional athletic career. He attended Pepperdine University, where he achieved remarkable statistics.

He finished his basketball career as the 14th highest scorer in school history. During his senior season, he became the 36th Waves player to score 1,000 points.

With such a good scoring record, he was thought to be a lock for the NBA draft, but he went undrafted. After trying out for several teams, he signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Trayce is the youngest member of the family. He and his siblings spent the majority of their childhood in Los Angeles, where their father played for the Lakers.

Mychel played basketball for the Golden State Warriors organization.

Mychel spent the majority of his career in the G-League, which is a level below the NBA. He later joined the Santa Cruz Warriors, Golden State’s G-league team. He won a championship with the squad in 2014-2015.

His role with the Santa Cruz Warriors expanded in 2022, when he was elevated to video coordinator.

Mychel competes for the Bahamas national team.

He is passionate about playing for his father’s home nation team and has stated that he is determined to win a championship while wearing the shirt.

“We’re going to play hard, try, and put on a show for the Bahamas,” Mychel told FIBA Basketball in 2022. “We just want to represent and play as hard as we can when we put that jersey on.”

Trayce plays professional baseball.

while basketball is in the Thompson boys’ blood, Trayce excelled in baseball. He played in high school before beginning his professional career in 2009, with Advanced Rookie Bristol and Advanced Rookie Great Falls. The Chicago White Sox eventually scouted him, and the Los Angeles Dodgers acquired him in 2015.

That same year, rumors circulated that Trayce had signed with the Oakland A’s, who played at the Coliseum, just a short distance from the Warriors’ home court at Oracle Arena.

“It can be difficult to communicate with Klay over the phone at times. But that day, he texted me 20 times before I could react. “He was very excited,” Trayce once told a reporter.

When a reporter from GQ Sports repeated the comment back to him, Trayce smiled and stated, “He’s absolutely terrible with his phone.” This is nothing new. It’s not because of who he is in the world now. “He has been this way since he was a teenager.”

The brothers had been close since they were children.

When the boys were younger, Mychal was traded from the Portland Trailblazers to the Los Angeles Lakers, which strengthened their friendship even more.

“We weren’t in school yet, so it was hard to make friends,” Klay told GQ Sports.

He claimed that the group found refuge on the primary school field outside their new home, saying, “We would be there all day, man, playing catch or shooting hoops. “Those were the best memories of my life.”

Trayce reported Mychel was a sweet child, but he and Klay were a little rowdy. “Trayce was a happy-go-lucky kid, and the only naughty thing Klay would do was sneak off into the garage and make firecrackers,” he told me.

In 2017, the Thompson family founded the Thompson Family Foundation, a nonprofit that helps children from all backgrounds.

According to their website, their mission is to “enrich the lives of youth in the United States and the Bahamas through fitness and education.”

In 2022, inspired by Klay’s nearly career-ending injury (a ruptured ligament and torn ACL), they founded the 941 Project, which facilitates “re-entry to the workplace for individuals from disadvantaged situations.”
