Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry is the measuring stick in the eyes of the Dallas Mavericks’ Kyrie Irving.

Following a 108-106 victory over Golden State, Irving told reporters that Curry “set the bar for a lot of us point guards (and) where we want to be.”

“We’re still chasing his legacy,” the eight-time All-Star added.

There is undoubtedly a segment of NBA fans who believe Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson is the best point guard of all time, and he is likely to stay the consensus choice.

Curry, like Magic, has changed the way people think about point guards. Aside from the individual and team laurels the 36-year-old has received, his trademark approach has been replicated by his peers and has spread to lesser levels of the sport.

Whereas younger players a decade or two ago aspired to be the next Magic, Curry is now the player most aspiring point guards will look up to. And it may be a long time before another playmaker can match, if not surpass, his enormous influence.
