Kylian Mbappé, the forward for Paris Saint-Germain, has provided insights into his close friendship with NBA star LeBron James, revealing that he regularly seeks career advice from the basketball icon. Mbappé and James have been acquainted since 2018 when they met at a Nike event in New York.
Since then, their friendship has blossomed, with Mbappé expressing admiration for James, who, in addition to his basketball career, is an investor in Fenway Sports Group, the owner of Liverpool FC.
Mbappé’s statement has sparked discussions about a potential move to Liverpool, but PSG is actively pursuing a contract renewal with an offer worth £86.15 million per season.
Mbappé, a prominent figure in French football, captains the national team and leads the line for PSG. Despite losing Neymar and Lionel Messi, the club has retained Mbappé’s services. Mbappé and James, connected through their affiliation with Nike, share mutual respect, and Mbappé emphasizes James’ significance in his career decisions.
“He has a much more advanced career than I do, and projects outside of sport that have solidified his place as a legend,” Mbappé told GQ Magazine. “Being able to seek advice from such inspiring personalities allows me to effectively shape my projects for today’s young people.”
