Will the Denver Nuggets’ star be exceeded by Luka Doncic and Anthony Edwards in five years?
Nikola Jokic, the star of the Denver Nuggets, was almost universally voted the NBA’s top player in a recent ESPN poll. While this was to be expected, the poll predicted that Anthony Edwards of the Minnesota Timberwolves and Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks will overtake Jokic as the league’s best player within the next five seasons.
When it came to determining who would be the best NBA player in five years, Doncic received six votes, Edwards received three, and Jokic received only two. This is noteworthy because, while Jokic is younger than Doncic and Edwards, he is still only 28 years old.
While not every NBA player can continue to dominate at the age of 33, Jokic’s game style should stand up over time. Jokic may be able to maintain his present level of performance far into his 30s without relying on athleticism. Despite huge gains from both of these young players, it will be difficult to catch the reigning Finals MVP. This survey seems to focus more on Doncic and Edwards’ gains than Jokic’s loss.
Jokic is currently considered as the best player in the world, and he has a decent chance of maintaining that status for a long time. As previously stated, Jokic plays a style of basketball that will age well, making it even more difficult to dethrone him.
