Every game, the basketball player clips his wedding ring to his shoelaces to keep his family by his side on the court, a custom he acquired from an old teammate.

According to the internet, Nikola and his lifelong partner have been together since they were teenagers. Nikola and Natalija are both from Sombor, Serbia, and met there. They began dating in high school and moved to Denver with Nikola’s two brothers in 2015.

“My brothers came with me and my girlfriend came with me, so we tried to make our home here and not allow all the different things to bother us,” he stated in a SLAM interview.

Nikola has previously stated that his sports profession requires him to spend less time with his family than he would prefer. “I play 100 games away and am not home for 100 days. When I get home, Ognjena looks different. In an interview with Arena TV (per PEOPLE), he said, “She changes in five days.”
