Denver Star Michael Porter Jr spends his first NBA paycheck on a ‘Priceless gift’ for his mother

Michael Porter Jr.’s summer has been filled with surprises. Due to persistent back issues, the former Missouri standout was selected by the Denver Nuggets with the 14th overall in the NBA Draft in June. In under two months, he underwent his second back surgery.

On X, Michael Porter, Sr. said, “I am happy to be in Portland with Michael Jr. to celebrate this day! proud and thrilled that he will have the chance to go back to the court.

Michael Porter, Sr. on X: "Thankful to be in Portland to experience this day with Michael Jr.! Excited for him to have the opportunity to be back on the court, and proud

But MPJ has managed to enjoy some of the benefits of being a professional basketball player despite the health problems that have interfered with his first NBA summer.

Many people say that their first big purchase would be a luxury automobile or house for a parent when they see themselves “making it” and becoming affluent. Porter Jr. seems to have that in mind when he gave his mother a car as a thank you for all that she has done for him over the years.

In addition to the video, he wrote a touching caption:

“Mom…I adore you so much! It is such a delight to be able to bless you in this way; it has long been a dream of mine! You are an angel to me and the most amazing mother in the world. I can’t believe how many selfless things you’ve done for our children. I want to thank you for giving up your professional basketball career to raise eight children.

“Thank you for being a stay-at-home parent and homeschooling us all. Thank you for being the last one to fall asleep and the first to wake up. Thank you for washing so many clothes and dishes for us as we grew up. Thank you for all the meals you’ve prepared for us. Thank you for ensuring that we all attended our AAU tournaments and summer camps, even when the funds were not always available. But most importantly, thank you and Dad for teaching us to trust and rely on God’s word! I know I may be a jerk at times, but all I want is to make you proud.

Porter Jr. is the oldest of eight (EIGHT!) Porter’s children, but he’s far from the only athlete. Porter’s two eldest sisters, Bri and Cierra, played for Mizzou’s women’s basketball program, while his brother Jontay also played for the Tigers.

Since 2017, their father has served as an assistant coach for the men’s basketball team at Mizzou. However, he is hardly the most impressive basketball parent in the Porter family. No, Lisa Porter deserves that honor since she was an excellent basketball player in her own right. She averaged nearly 60 points per game in her senior year of high school before going on to shine for Iowa’s women’s basketball team, where she was crowned “Miss Basketball.”

She may have given up her pro aspirations to become a mother, but she’s now the matriarch of an incredible basketball family. She now has a brand-new automobile to show for it
