Several reports state that Jaylen Brown has agreed to a historic five-year, $304 million contract extension with the Boston Celtics. The two-time All-Star Brown averaged a career-high 26.6 points and 6.9 rebounds per game in the previous campaign. In 2019, he had already agreed to a $106.3 million, four-year contract extension.  The 2024–2025 season will see his huge wage increase.

Previously, Brown told The Ringer that he would remain in Boston “as long as I’m needed,” without indicating how long he planned to stay with the team.  “It’s not my responsibility,” Brown declared in March. We’ll wait and see how I feel about them and how they feel about me. Whatever it is, hopefully, it makes sense. However, I’ll remain where I’m welcome. I’ll remain where I’m needed and receive the proper treatment.

The Celtics’ gаmble on Brown comes following a dismal postseason run, which was followed by a summer of roster changes.

The Celtics acquired Kristaps Porzingis from the Wizards and traded Marcus Smart and Grant Williams in the wake of their lopsided Game 7 defeat to the Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals.

With Brown and Jayson Tatum at its core, Boston has finished as a top-two seed the past two regular seasons, but the team is still chasing its first championship.

In the Miami series this year, Brown’s field goal percentage was a pitiful 41.8 percent, and the Celtics lost in the end.
