In the 2024 NBA Draft, LeBron James’ son Bronny will battle with hundreds of other prospects for one of the 58 picks. Everyone expects the Lakers to sign Bronny and have him play with his father, but Stephen A. Smith is keeping an eye out for the Dallas Mavericks as they prepare to draft Bronny and recruit LeBron to join them in free agency.
“Bronny James may not be the Lakers’ second-round pick because a team such as the Dallas Mavericks could position themselves to take him in the second round.” They will take him since LeBron has stated that he wants to accompany his son wherever he goes. If you are the Mavericks and have Kyrie, Luka, and LeBron James, are they willing to travel to Dallas? That may be the first time something is more popular than the Cowboys!”
Smith believes James would be more interested in the opportunity to play with his kid in Dallas than the money the Lakers might offer him, while also detailing how LeBron is getting closer to realizing his dream of owning an NBA franchise.
Donovan Mitchell Clears the Air Amid
“If LeBron James joins Kyrie and Luka, he has previously stated that he wants to play with his son. His billionaire status means money isn’t an issue, especially because his organization is in talks with people in Saudi Arabia about partnering up so he can own an NBA club in the future. He stated that while money is not a concern for him, playing with his son is.
The James camp has gone out of its way to prevent fans from believing reports that LeBron will mindlessly follow Bronny to whatever team drafts him. We’ll see if that assumption holds true over the summer. However, such a move by the Mavericks would be huge.
LeBron has wanted Kyrie Irving to be his teammate since 2019, and in recent seasons, he has referred to Luka Doncic as his favorite NBA player. Jason Kidd, the Mavericks’ head coach, was LeBron’s former assistant coach and Olympic teammate.
GM Nico Harrison worked closely with LeBron as a Nike executive, thus the Mavericks would be an appealing choice for James. If any non-Lakers team could choose Bronny and entice LeBron to come, it would most likely be the Mavericks.
Bronny Doesn’t Dream Of Playing With LeBron
The notion that LeBron will jump teams to play alongside Bronny may be premature, especially given Bronny’s recent comments at the Combine. The 19-year-old guard stated unequivocally that he has never aspired to be an NBA player with his father, but rather to simply make it to the league.
No, never. My dream has always been to get my name out there, build a reputation for myself, and eventually make it to the NBA, which is everyone’s ultimate objective. I never considered just playing with my dad, but he has mentioned it a few times. But, honestly, I don’t think about it often.”
This is consistent with recent messages from reporters on the Bronny draft situation, with the Lakers favoring the USC guard and James likely to accept the choice of whatever team provides his son an opportunity in the NBA. If it were the Mavericks, LeBron would at least visit with them to discuss free agency options.
