Travis Kelce has shown an interest in playing beyond his two-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs, stating he hopes to retire with six Super Bowl rings.
Kelce, 34, agreed to his new Chiefs contract, worth $34.25 million, at the end of April, as a reward for another outstanding season in Kansas City, which culminated in his second consecutive Super Bowl title and third overall.
However, midway through last season, in an interview with the Wall Street Journal, as his celebrity soared thanks to his connection with Taylor Swift, Kelce confessed he frequently considers retiring owing to the physical toll the game has on his body.
Fast forward to May, when Kelce appears to want to keep playing and equal Michael Jordan’s six NBA titles.
‘Three more? In an interview with Zen Water, Kelce laughed and added, “Give me as many rings as Jordan has, baby.” ‘That sensation in the end zone is the best feeling; raising the trophy at the end is Mecca right there.
Chiefs star Travis Kelce has intimated that he could play beyond the next two years of his contract.
In a new interview, Kelce reveals that he aspires to equal Michael Jordan’s six NBA rings.
Kelce, 34, helped the Chiefs win their second consecutive Super Bowl in the 2016 NFL season.
The Chiefs make a strong start to the season, facing the Baltimore Ravens on September 5 at Arrowhead Stadium in their first game.
The Cincinnati Bengals will then visit Arrowhead before playing their first road game against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 3.
Kelce remarked regarding retirement last year: ‘That’s the only thing I’ve never been upfront about. The discomfort. The pain. The persistent injuries, the ten operations I’ve undergone.
‘I can still feel every surgery to this day.
Kelce, who is now in the offseason, traveled to Europe last week to support girlfriend Swift on her Eras Tour performances in Paris before taking a holiday in Lake Como, Italy.
