Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs are gazing on.
The NFL eventually chose to reveal the worst-kept secret surrounding Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, following the release of the 2024 regular season schedule.
The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl 58, completing the NFL’s first repeat in 19 seasons. With three Lombardi Trophies in the last five years, the Chiefs have established themselves as the new dynasty and golden franchise.
Mike North, NFL Vice President of Broadcast Planning, revealed on “The Adam Schefter Podcast” that the defending Super Bowl champions are the “bellcow” of the league calendar. That’s largely why the league decided to offer Kansas City a challenging schedule jam-packed with primetime games.
“They’ve been our bell cow for a while, right? They’re used to lugging our water for these unusual opportunities. Consider adding a Chiefs game to the Peacock playoffs from last year. To make Black Friday more memorable, Amazon might host a Chiefs game. Do you want to make Christmas on Netflix a thing? Put a Chiefs game there.
Interestingly, the Chiefs will play on six different days of the week during the 2024 NFL regular season. This year, Christmas falls on a Wednesday, and Kansas City will play one of two games on December 25 against Russell Wilson’s Pittsburgh Steelers (the other game is between the Houston Texans and the Baltimore Ravens).
The NFL has also agreed to include the Kansas City Chiefs on Black Friday (November 29), when they will host the Las Vegas Raiders. Kansas City has two Monday night games (the New Orleans Saints and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on October 7 and November 4, respectively) and one Thursday night game (the Kickoff Game against Baltimore on September 5).
Kansas City will also face the Texans, headed by CJ Stroud, at Arrowhead Stadium on Saturday (December 21). Tuesday is the only day of the week that Kansas City will not play in 2024.
The Kansas City Chiefs aim for a three-peat.
No team in NFL history has won three consecutive Super Bowls, but the 1990 San Francisco 49ers and 1994 Dallas Cowboys came close. After winning consecutive Super Bowls, the 49ers and Cowboys were defeated in the NFC championship game, ending their three-peat hopes.
The Chiefs will seek to become the first club in NFL history to win three consecutive Lombardi Trophies. Bet against this club with caution, given that they have appeared in six consecutive AFC championship games and four of the last five Super Bowls.
