The Indiana Pacers led late in the fourth quarter for the third time in their last four games. The Boston Celtics erased it for the third time in the last four games. Boston overcame a deficit of 89-82 in the fourth quarter on Monday night to defeat the Pacers 105-102, winning their second straight game in Indianapolis. The victory guarantees the Celtics a 4-0 victory in the Eastern Conference finals and a trip to the NBA Finals. For the NBA title, Boston will play the victor of the Dallas Mavericks and Minnesota Timberwolves. Tuesday night at home is the Mavericks’ opportunity to complete their own series sweep as they lead the Western Conference finals 3-0.
Before Jaylen Brown’s floater to tie the score at 102-102, Boston trailed for the most of the fourth quarter. With 43.9 seconds left, Derrick White made a 3-pointer to give the Celtics their first lead of the quarter, 105-102.
For the second straight game, the Celtics surprised the Indiana crowd with what turned out to be the final bucket of both the game and the series. The Pacers were missing All-NBA guard Tyrese Haliburton for the second straight game as Boston defeated Indiana. Haliburton missed Games 3 and 4 due to a hamstring strain.
Up until the last few minutes of play, it seemed like the Pacers were in charge and would force a Game 5. With 3:32 left, Pascal Siakam made a basket in traffic as the Celtics were getting closer, extending Indiana’s lead to 102-98. The Pacers’ last basket came at that point.
The Pacers turned the ball over twice and went 0–4 from the field in the last 3:32. With 32.1 seconds left, Andrew Nembhard’s desperate 3-point shot to tie White’s was off-target.
The Celtics’ Jayson Tatum grabbed the rebound, and Indiana didn’t have the ball again.
For the Pacers, the game’s outcome meant the end of an excruciatingly painful series. Before losing in overtime, they had led the first game in Boston, 115-110, in the last two minutes. They were up 18 points in the third game on Saturday at home, but the Celtics won 114–11 after they lost a nine-point lead in the fourth.
The defeat on Monday was much unchanged. In those three games, Indiana was one possession away from winning all three. However, the Celtics consistently produced the big plays in the closing moments to win the series. In yet another incredible performance, Brown led the Celtics with 29 points, six rebounds, three steals, and two assists. He made 11 of 22 field goals and 4 of 8 three-pointers. Throughout the series, he scored 29.8 points per game on average and made the crucial 3-pointer in Game 1 to send the game into OT. For his performance, he was named the ECF MVP.

Although it wasn’t deliberate, the unwarranted and careless contact with an opponent’s head was a textbook example of a flagrant foul. Officials held a different opinion.
Referee Zach Zarba informed an irate Indiana audience that the foul had been examined by officials and that it had been determined to be a common foul.
“The contact, although unfortunate, does not rise to the level of a flagrant foul penalty one,” Zarba stated.
The Pacers were given merely possession on the non-shooting foul, instead of two free throws and possession that would have resulted from a flagrant penalty. On the next possession, McConnell missed a jump shot, but Jrue Holiday scored a layup to keep the Celtics rally going.

However, Indiana’s season is gone, and the Pacers will have to reflect on a productive season that came to an unpleasant finish.
