Nuggets star Nikola Jokic’s Olympics plans teased by Serbia roster release

Despite the fact that the Denver Nuggets failed to win their second consecutive NBA title this season, Nikola Jokic may have less time to rest this summer. According to Harrison Wind of DNVR Sports, Serbia’s preliminary roster for the 2024 Olympics includes the superstar center.

Those who follow Jokic attentively understand how much national pride he emits. The 2023 Finals MVP notoriously lamented the fact that he would have to wait a few more days to return to his beloved home country after the Nuggets won their first championship in their history. Jokic won a silver medal with Serbia at the Rio de Janeiro Games in 2016, but his competitive desire may yet be satisfied after being eliminated by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the NBA Playoffs.

Since Denver’s 2022-23 season concluded in June, the 29-year-old has decided to forego the 2023 FIBA World Cup. Serbia finished second without him, therefore it’s impossible to predict how high this team’s ceiling will be if the guy largely regarded as the best in the world now suits up. Competing in Paris might also be a good tune-up for him before the 2024-25 NBA season begins in the fall.

The original roster includes rising Miami Heat forward Nikola Jovic, Atlanta Hawks veteran Bogdan Bogdanovic, and Charlotte Hornets players Aleksej Pokusevski and Vasilije Micic, among others. With Team USA’s roster so rich, might Nikola Jokic be inspired for the ultimate global challenge?

While his superstar status may have taken a hit during the Nuggets’ Game 7 collapse against the Wolves in the Western Conference Semifinals, the three-time MVP still has the power to captivate basketball fans all around the world with his distinct and refined skill set. The playmaking extraordinaire immediately raises the level of entertainment in an event that is rarely competitive anymore.

Serbia would have a great chance of reaching the medal podium at the Summer Games, which is not guaranteed in a competition that includes France, Spain, Lithuania, and Germany. Last season, Jokic averaged 26.4 points, 12.4 rebounds, 9.0 assists, and 1.4 steals per game, making him a constant headache for opponents.

His excellent court vision and touch around the hoop would command attention in Paris. The NBA has done a good job of growing its worldwide reach, but in a league with so many generational talents, it’s only right that this outlier hits the field.

Jokic’s horses may have to say goodbye for a time if he decides he wants another chance to win some more trophy. Group play at the 2024 Summer Olympics began on Saturday, July 27.
