The Chiefs have announced that President Joe Biden will welcome the Super Bowl champions back to the White House in Washington, D.C. on Friday, May 31.
What Chiefs’ Travis Kelce wanted to say to the White House.
In Super Bowl LVIII, the Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers in overtime, 25-22. President Biden took a comic approach to the triumph, sharing a message and meme of himself on social media.
“Just like we drew it up,” Biden wrote on his Instagram account.
On Friday afternoon, Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas offered his thoughts on the planned White House visit via his X account. “I’m excited to see the Chiefs return to the White House next Friday. Thank you, President Biden. I am hope @tkelce gets to deliver his words this time.”
Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker has received mixed feedback on his commencement speech viral video, raising questions about his availability for the visit. Andy Reid, the Chiefs’ head coach, and his teammates support his right to express his opinions.
“We’re a microcosm of life here,” Reid stated at Wednesday’s OTAs press conference. “Everyone comes from different backgrounds, beliefs, and races, and we all get along. We all accept each other’s viewpoints, and while we don’t always follow them, we do respect everyone’s right to speak up.”
Celebrating the team’s back-to-back Super Bowl victories will continue, and the return trip to the White House should rekindle some fond memories. The most famous occurrence was Travis Kelce’s attempted podium address when President Biden was walking away. Patrick Mahomes was able to delightfully prevent him from saying something embarrassing in front of the president.
