The Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory rings contain a big fault. On Thursday, quarterback Patrick Mahomes, tight end Travis Kelce, and the rest of last year’s Super Bowl-winning team received title rings for their 25-22 win over the San Francisco 49ers.
According to ESPN, the expensive piece of jewellery is estimated to cost $40,000 and includes 529 diamonds, 38 rubies, and 14.8 carats of jewels. It also features a special display honouring “Tom & Jerry,” the name of the Chiefs’ final overtime play that resulted in a game-winning touchdown throw.
Although the design was evidently well thought out, one obvious misspelling appears to have been ignored. Fans observed that the Dolphins are listed as the AFC’s No. 7 seed on the underside of the ring, where the list of teams Kansas City defeated in the 2023 postseason is etched. In truth, Miami was the sixth seed when it lost 26-7 to the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium.
Several individuals took to social media to make fun of the error. “Here’s hoping the real rings have the correct seeding for the Dolphins,” one X user remarked, while another said, “Will gladly take any of the rings after you guys correct Miami’s seed (6th).”
It’s unclear whether the typo was carved into all 400 rings distributed to players, coaches, and front-office officials, or if it was simply a mistake on the graphic mock-ups. According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the misspelling appears on at least one legitimate piece of jewellery.
The Chiefs have made comical typos before. Fans quickly compared the recent mishap to the classic 1996 Snickers ad, in which a team groundskeeper accidentally writes “Chefs” in the end zone. The advertisement was redone 27 years later, this time with Kansas City head coach Andy Reid.

The evident ring error didn’t appear to dampen the mood at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. While celebrating his Super Bowl LVIII victory with colleagues, Mahomes admitted that he already has his sights set on winning a third consecutive championship.
“The first thing I think of is how great last season was and the adversity we dealt with,” he stated to reporters. “Then I’ll think about how to get another one for my pinkie finger. It will take a lot of effort [to win three consecutive titles]. It has never been done before, and for good reason. It requires a specific group of guys, and I believe we have that group.”

Clark Hunt, Chiefs chairman, had a similar opinion, saying, “It’s an incredible challenge.” It’s never been done in the NFL, so that tells you everything you need to know. It’s difficult to work back-to-back, and from what I’ve seen, they’re anxious to get started on this campaign.
“They believe they have a decent chance at it. Obviously, you need to have a lot of things go your way. If we can do it, it will solidify this era of Chiefs football.”
