Nikola Jokic’s Serbian coach deems USA’s 2024 Olympic team outshines 1992 Dream Team

The Paris Olympics are just around the corner, with men’s basketball play starting on July 27. Svetislav Pesic, Nikola Jocic’s Serbian national team coach, believes the USA’s 2024 Olympic squad will be even better than the 1992 Dream Team, which included Michael Jordan.

“This American team is better than the original Dream Team from 1992,” Pesic claimed (via Mozzart Sport). “Although we don’t deal with them and I won’t talk to my players about them.”

Pesic added credence to his comments by noting his role as head coach of the German national team, who competed against the Dream Team in the 1992 Olympics. The German team was trounced 111-68, much like all of the other opponents Team USA faced on their road to gold in 1992.

“I was there with the German team and then we thought there were no better players than these,” Pesic recalls. “This team that will appear in Paris will be stronger than the Dream Team, with the fact that not everyone will prepare just for them like not everyone was prepared just for the Dream Team in 1992.”

Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Charles Barkley, Chris Mullin, Clyde Drexler, David Robinson, John Stockton, Karl Malone, Patrick Ewing, Scottie Pippen, and Christian Laettner were among the elite players on the 1992 Dream Team.

Meanwhile, Team USA’s roster for the 2024 Paris Olympics includes LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Steph Curry, Joel Embiid, Jayson Tatum, Anthony Edwards, Anthony Davis, Kawhi Leonard, Devin Booker, Tyrese Haliburton, Jrue Holiday, and Bam Adebayo.

The squad will attempt to win their fifth consecutive Olympic gold medal and reclaim the top rank in international basketball after finishing fourth in the FIBA World Cup in 2023.
