LeBron James has reportedly inked a two-year, $104 million contract extension with the Los Angeles Lakers, as confirmed by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and The Athletic’s Shams Charania on July 3rd.
This deal includes a no-trade clause and grants James, at 39 years old, a player option for the 2025-2026 season, affording him autonomy over his future post the forthcoming season. CNN has reached out to the Lakers for official confirmation and commentary.
Notably, this agreement sets the stage for a historic NBA first: LeBron James, a four-time NBA champion, will share the court with his son Bronny James, recently drafted 55th overall by the Lakers in the 2024 player draft.
Bronny James himself secured a $7.9 million, four-year contract with the Lakers, finalized this past Wednesday.
Regarded as one of the all-time greatest NBA players alongside Michael Jordan, LeBron James made history last season as the first to achieve 40,000 career points. A four-time NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP), James also holds the record for the highest career playoff scoring average, exceeding eight points.
In a standout season, James earned selection to 20 All-Star Games, surpassing a previous shared record with Lakers icon Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
During the last campaign, James averaged an impressive 25 points, along with seven rebounds and eight assists per game.
